Bishopwearmouth Horticultural Nursery
Bishopwearmouth Horticultural Nursery is a unique non-traditional day service offered by Sunderland City Council which provides learning and work-based opportunities for adults with disabilities and mental health needs.
With the support of trained staff, people are offered a wide choice of activities within horticulture/floristry and retail.
The day opportunities are available for anyone aged 18 years and over and who live in the Sunderland area. People can access the service using their own finances or through using individual budgets. One to one support and personal care are not available.
The Day Centre in conjunction with Bishopwearmouth Co-operative also provides support for people who wish to access employment and volunteer opportunities within the company and externally.
For those people who are unable to move into employment or voluntary roles Bishopwearmouth Horticultural Nursery provides a supportive environment where people can socialise, gain confidence, develop their skills and friendships, enabling people not only to gain new interests but to also share experiences with others.
Bishopwearmouth Nursery assists people to integrate into the wider community by undertaking several community projects including landscaping and maintenance within the northeast.
Access to service is via a social care assessment. An individual support plan will then be agreed with the person to detail how Bishopwearmouth nursery will meet their objectives. The placement will be reviewed after six weeks then annually.
The current daycare charge is £66.69 per day, this charge may vary depending on individual's financial circumstances. Meals are not included, however, food can be purchased from the tearoom on site.
Opening times are Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm. A full uniform is included. Transport is available independently through Compass Community Transport
