Planned System Maintenance - Limited Service

Sunderland City Council will be carrying out planned system maintenance from 12 noon on Friday 5th June until 7am on Tuesday 9th June. During this period, we will only be able to respond to urgent enquiries. If your enquiry is not urgent, please contact us before or after these times when full services will be available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

Apply for a school transfer

If you would like to transfer your child to a school in Sunderland Local Authority (including Hetton-le-Hole, Houghton-le-Spring and Washington), you must complete a School Transfer Application Form. Information on schools in Sunderland Local Authority can be found in the Schools in Sunderland.

Application for a secondary or all-age school transfer

  • Once the form has been completed this will need to be returned to the School Admissions Team who will then forward it onto the preferred school
  • The School Admissions Team will then write to parent/carer to confirm whether there is a place

Application for a primary school transfer:

  • Once the form has been completed this will need to be sent directly to the preferred school
  • The preferred school will contact parents/carer directly if there is a place
  • If the year group is full, parents/carers will receive a letter to confirm this

To apply for a school in another area, parent/carer must contact the council where the school is located for advice about the application process

Please note that it is not possible to apply for a place at Biddick Academy or Diamond Hall Junior Academy through this process. Please contact the Academy Trust directly to request an application form [email protected] A copy of the application forms have been provided to all of the schools in Sunderland, so parents/carers can request this from their current school.
