Grit bins

Grit bins are provided at locations of identified difficulty.

These include:

Significant inclines providing access to a major road, or adjacent to any other incline likely to be dangerous in icy conditions

Areas where ice may create hazardous conditions specific to the area such as hospitals or schools

Grit bins are not for private use

The provision and use of grit bins is for surrounding roads, pavements or public steps.

You should purchase grit for your own private use such as on garden paths or drives.

To find your nearest grit bin, click twice on the magnifying glass and search for your address. You can enlarge and shrink the map by scrolling backwards or forwards with your mouse. The yellow dots show the grit bin locations, though the exact position of the grit bins may vary slightly.
