Dog control orders

Sunderland City Council promotes responsible dog ownership in the city and introduced dog control orders under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

Why it must be controlled:

  • It is unpleasant and anti-social
  • It may cause disease and illness
  • It can cause nuisance - stepping - falling - cycling - pram wheels

Dog owners can avoid the risk of a fine by clearing up after their dog and disposing of it in a marked dog waste bin or by taking it home and disposing of it in your wheeled bin.

If you are aware of who is allowing their dog to foul and not clearing up after it, let us know and officers will visit to discuss the matter with them.
