How to request a bin - new, replacement or repair
This service is strictly for Sunderland residential properties only.
Each residential property is entitled to one standard size green bin and one standard size blue bin. Exceptions apply to flats and houses of multiple occupancy (such a bed-sits) where shared communal waste containers may be provided.
To receive a free brown bin, you must have a paid garden waste collection subscription.
You are responsible for looking after your bins and are encouraged to take steps to store them securely.
Replacement green and blue bins are currently provided free of charge if they have been lost or stolen. All structurally damaged bins will be repaired wherever possible and replaced only if beyond repair. We will not replace bins that are useable.
Please note that not all bins supplied will be brand new as, in line with reducing our carbon footprint, we may supply a refurbished or pre-owned bin.
Bins supplied remain the property of the council.
