Planned System Maintenance - Limited Service

Sunderland City Council will be carrying out planned system maintenance from 12 noon on Friday 5th June until 7am on Tuesday 9th June. During this period, we will only be able to respond to urgent enquiries. If your enquiry is not urgent, please contact us before or after these times when full services will be available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

Garden waste service - auto-renewal information and how to cancel it

From 20 May 2025, garden waste subscriptions are now set to automatically renew each year. This means your payment will be taken at the start of the year using the same card details you provided when you first signed up online.

Auto-renewal helps ensure you don't miss any collections when the new subscription year begins.

What to expect:

  • Reminder email: You'll receive a reminder every January before any payment is taken
  • Manage your subscription: If you'd prefer to make the payment yourself, you can turn off auto-renewal anytime between January and August, while the subscription

How to cancel auto-renewal

If you don't want to auto-renew function, you can cancel it yourself. Here's a step-by-step guide to show you how to cancel your garden waste auto-renewal:

  1. Go to My Subscriptions (or select Garden Waste Service, then My Subscriptions)
  2. Find the Auto-Renewal column
  3. Click on Cancel Auto-Renewal
  4. Confirm by clicking Yes when asked if you're sure.
  5. A green confirmation message will appear at the top of the page to let you know auto-renewal has been successfully cancelled

Once cancelled, no payments will be taken automatically. You'll need to renew manually online if you wish to continue the service.
