Essential works at Jack Crawford House Depot to begin Monday
Sunderland City Council will begin essential works at its Jack Crawford House Depot in Hendon on Monday 27 October, with temporary traffic management measures in place to support the project.
Although the works are confined to the depot site, they will require the use of 4-way temporary traffic lights on the A1018 Commercial Road roundabout to ensure the safety of workers and road users. These measures are necessary to allow the works to proceed while maintaining full operational access to the depot, including services provided by SUEZ.
To minimise disruption, the temporary traffic lights will be manually operated during peak travel times and on match days. However, some delays are expected, and road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
Advance signage has already been installed to alert drivers, and all staff based at the depot have been informed of the upcoming works.
Councillor Lindsey Leonard, Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Net Zero at Sunderland City Council said: "We appreciate that any disruption to traffic can be frustrating, and we thank residents and road users for their patience while these essential works take place. The traffic management measures are designed to keep everyone safe while ensuring the depot continues to operate effectively. We're working hard to keep disruption to a minimum and appreciate the public's understanding."
The council will continue to monitor the impact of the works and adjust traffic management as needed to support the smooth flow of traffic in the area.
