Call for sites

Sunderland City Council are undertaking a call for sites exercise.

We would therefore like to invite individuals, groups and organisations to put forward sites, or update the position on sites which have previously been submitted, (Including setting out possible mitigation measures) to allow them to be considered and potentially inform growth options for the city. 

 DO submit sites that:

·         are likely to become available for development or redevelopment in the next 20 years;

·         have seen a change in circumstances or timescale for potential development.

DO NOT submit sites that:

·         already have planning permission for development (unless a new and different proposal is likely in the future);

·         have already been included and assessed in the councils' previous SHLAAs and for which there is no change in circumstances;

·         are not within the City of Sunderland boundary.

Please complete and send the form below for each site you wish to be considered/re-considered to the best of your knowledge (using a separate form for each site) and together with a corresponding site map.  The map must clearly identify the location and boundary of the site and should be 1:1250 or 1:2500 in scale so that the boundary can be clearly established.

Any completed proformas and site plans in relation to the call for sites should be emailed to: planning.policy@sunderland.gov.uk or sent to the Planning Policy Team, Sunderland City Council, Sunderland City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland, SR1 3AA by 29 August 2025.

Please note that the inclusion of a site in the HELAA does not represent policy and provides no guarantee that a site will be proposed for that allocation in the Plan, or that it will be granted planning permission.
