Illegal tobacco and tobacco products
Local intelligence shows us that several retailers and individuals in Sunderland are selling illegal tobacco.
How to spot illegal tobacco:
- Non-plain packages - illegal tobacco products often don't have the standardised plain brown packaging required on compliant cigarettes to be supplied legally in the UK
- Foreign language health warnings - illegal tobacco products often have the health warning in a foreign language
- Lower prices compared to genuine/legal tobacco products - illegal tobacco products are often sold at a much lower price. A pack of 20 legal cigarettes is currently sold for approximately £12
