Flying the flag with pride

Mayor of Sunderland Councillor Dorothy Trueman and her Consort, Councillor Harry Trueman have raised the Progress pride flag outside of City Hall this morning (Thursday 1 June), where it will fly throughout June in celebration of pride month.

The Progress pride flag is an updated version of the rainbow pride flag, including more colours to be more inclusive.

Mayor of Sunderland Councillor Dorothy Trueman said: "Today we are delighted to be raising the Progress pride flag, showing that we are a welcoming and inclusive city.  

"We are pleased to be supporting pride month, showcasing our shared commitment to ending discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community as we strive for greater inclusion and acceptance."

Councillor Allen Curtis, said: "Raising the new inclusive LGBTQIA flag during pride month shows how inclusive and diverse we are as a city, and that we stand shoulder to shoulder with the wider LGBTQIA community all over the world, where people continue to face legal issues, discrimination and even death penalties."

The Progress pride flag is flying outside of City Hall and will remain in place throughout June.
