Lifeguards return to Sunderland's beaches

The RNLI, which provides Sunderland's lifeguard service, will have its patrol back in place at Seaburn, Roker, and Cat and Dogs Beaches from 27 May.

This comes as the charity launches its 'Float to Live' campaign, which teaches people to lie back and float if they get into trouble in water.

Sean Mills, RNLI Lead Lifeguard Supervisor for the area said: "Our charity's lifeguards will be returning tomorrow (Saturday 27 May) to keep a watchful eye over Seaburn, Cats and Dogs and Roker beaches. They will be there daily from 10am to 6pm until 3 September. We always urge people to visit a lifeguarded beach and to swim between the red and yellow flags."

Councillor John Price, Cabinet Member for Vibrant city at Sunderland City Council, said: "Water safety is a key priority for us so we're delighted to see the return of RNLI lifeguards to our beaches this Saturday 27 May.

"I would encourage anyone swimming outdoors to go to a beach where lifeguards are present and check the advice on the RNLI website before setting out."
