investing in our highways

Drivers are advised that as part of the work, A690 Durham road will be closed from the Board Inn roundabout to Broadmeadows between 8am and 6pm on Sunday 23 April.

The roundabout will remain open, and diversions will be in place throughout the works.

Holmeside will be closed overnight from 7pm to 6am Monday 17 to Friday 21 April while resurfacing is carried out, and a section of A690 Durham Road in East Rainton will be closed overnight between Monday 24 April and Friday 28 April.

These works are just some of major re-surfacing projects currently programmed by Sunderland City Council and have been programmed to coincide with periods of reduced traffic on these roads.

Further works taking place over the coming weeks include the resurfacing of part of Hall Farm Road in Doxford, which will be closed between 8am and 6pm from Tuesday 9 May and Thursday 11 May, and Sevenoaks Drive in Sandhill, which will be closed between 8am and 6pm on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 May.

A total of more than 200 schemes are currently scheduled to be carried out as part of the ongoing highways investment programme.

The full re-surfacing programme, including associated road closures, is available on the council's website at Roads and bridges - Sunderland City Council.

Funding for the works is provided through the council's Local Transport Plan and Incentive Fund allocation, its capital budget and the Government's Pothole Fund.
