The SARA Project in Southwick has joined forces with the Salvation Army to line up an Easter Fun Day at Southwick Community Primary School between 11am and 2pm on Tuesday 11 April.

Fun activities lined up for the day include face painting, science experiments, circus skills, magic shows and balloons, creepy crawlies, inflatables and much more. Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service will also be there.

There will also be the chance to find out more about the ground-breaking SARA project, (Southwick Altogether Raising Aspirations) and how it is making a difference in Southwick, as well as meeting the team and finding out how to get involved.

Based at Austin House on Shakespeare Street, Southwick, the SARA Project works with the local community to make Southwick a better place.

It brings together key agencies including Sunderland City Council, Northumbria Police, Northumbria Violence Reduction Unit, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, Adult and Children's services as well as housing, education, and health representatives working with local voluntary and community organisations to rejuvenate Southwick and support the area's residents.

The project was set up in 2020 after discussions and engagement with the community about how best to breathe fresh life into the area, and works to tackle a range of issues including crime and disorder, mental health, and unemployment.

Vicki Neal, Community Engagement Worker for the SARA project, said: "We're really looking forward to seeing local people at our Easter Family Fun Day. As well as lots of free fun activities for families, it's also a chance to find out about more the SARA project and how to get involved in local projects."
