Burial records and searches

We understand how important it can be to find a loved one's resting place.

You can search the burial records or cremation register if you have forgotten where your relative's grave or cremated remains are, or if you want to trace your family tree. The processing times to complete the search and provide you with an update is within 14 days.

We hold burial records for Sunderland's cemeteries dating back to when each cemetery opened. Burial records for Bishopwearmouth, Southwick and Mere Knolls Cemeteries date back to the 1850s. Washington Cemetery opened in the early 1900s.

Before these cemeteries opened, burials took place in local churchyards. If you are looking for records from this period, please contact the relevant church directly.
