DBS check and provide original supporting documents

The DBS involves a search of your personal records to establish whether or not you are a safe person to drive members of the public, some of whom may be vulnerable, elderly, or infirm. The DBS is a government department which deals with all criminal record checks for the council's licensing department.

2 Applications for a DBS must be made using this link.  

3 Once complete, make payment by phoning 0191 5205550 or by going to the home page of sunderland.gov.uk - £pay - view all - taxi licensing - Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS)

4 You will then need to make an appointment with the Customer Service Centre at City Hall by phoning 0191 5205550 to have your identification documents verified. (read guidance above)

Please check our website for any Covid19 restrictions that may be in place prior to your visit.

Once the check has been completed a certificate will be sent to your home address.  Please upload a copy of this as part of your application.  

If you have previous criminal convictions, you may need to appear before the Licensing Committee, where the council's Elected Members will make a decision on whether or not to grant you a licence.
