Building restoration and enhancement projects

The Bishopwearmouth Townscape Heritage Scheme will offer grant assistance for repairs and enhancement works to historic buildings within the target area.

Within each of the 22 potential building projects a range of works have been identified, with priority given to listed buildings, works that aid wind and water tightness and works that support the long term economic use of the historic buildings.

This could include repairs to windows and doors, roofs and chimneys, brick and stonework. The retention of surviving elements of historic shop fronts and the reinstatement of traditional style shop fronts is a fundamental element of the scheme, based on historic photographs and evidence wherever possible.
