Bishopwearmouth Co-operative
Bishopwearmouth Co-operative is a unique local 'Not-for-Profit' community interest company in Sunderland.
The Co-operative operates as a garden centre as well as delivering a wide range of high quality professional horticultural and floristry services.
All profits are re-invested into the company, so it can carry out its core objective of supporting vulnerable adults with disabilities, by:
Providing paid employment, education, training, work-based placements and volunteering opportunities for vulnerable adults from our local community that may have moderate to severe learning disabilities; physical disabilities; severe and enduring mental health needs; behaviours that challenge; and / or have other complex needs
Reducing inequalities for disabled adults and help support them to move on to greater independence
Promoting social inclusion, equality and involvement within our local community
Their innovative 'not-for-profit' approach has enabled the Co-operative to provide disabled adults with:

The Co-operative provides the following services to the public:
Landscaping
A high-quality service working in the commercial, residential and private sector. We pride ourselves on giving our customers the highest quality in workmanship, products, and customer service. Our services within the North East area include grounds maintenance, hard and soft landscaping,
Garden Centre
Opened in 2017, we sell a wide range of plants, horticultural sundries and giftware.
Floristry
We offer a floristry service covering weddings, corporate flowers and funerals.
Day Service
The Day Care service on site is run by the council for adults with disabilities, mental health needs and older people. People can access the service using their own finances or through using individual budgets. The Co-operative provides support for people who wish to access employment and volunteer opportunities within the company and externally.
Future plans
The Co-operative is in the process of purchasing a building next to the Centre with plans to turn this into a café in 2019, providing additional employment opportunities in catering and retail.
