Revelstoke Road children's home in Red House has received an Outstanding rating for the overall experiences and progress of children and young people following its latest Ofsted inspection in March.

Inspectors praised the positive relationships between children and carers, noting that children are thriving and making excellent progress.

The report said: "Children are thriving in this home. They make excellent progress because of the close, positive relationships that they have with staff. Children talk about carers fondly and the home is filled with laughter."

Revelstoke Road is one of nine homes operated by Together for Children (TfC), the children's services partner of Sunderland City Council. It is home to six young people who may experience social and emotional difficulties.

The inspection highlighted how carers support children to engage in education that is meaningful for them, including helping young people to secure volunteering roles, part‑time work and college places. Inspectors also praised carers for helping a young person to develop their understanding of road safety, enabling them to walk to school independently.

The home was also recognised for its support for children's health needs and life‑story work that helps children understand their personal histories.

Sunderland City Council's Director of Children's Services and Chief Executive of TfC, Simon Marshall, said: "It is fantastic to see Revelstoke Road recognised as Outstanding. This is testament to the dedication and understanding of the carers, who have created a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive.

"We are incredibly proud of this achievement and remain fully committed to providing the highest standard of care and this recognition of our carers is well-deserved."

Revelstoke Road home manager, Mark Christie, said: "I'm incredibly proud of the team and the young people who live here. We work hard to build reparative relationships with the children, within our therapeutic model and to make sure they are listened to, supported and valued, so it really means a lot to us to see the team's effort reflected in this latest Ofsted report."
