Landmarks across the city are being lit overnight in the England colours from dusk on both Saturday 26 July and Sunday 27 July.

In Keel Square there is a live screening of the match at the Expo Pavilion Screen on Sunday 27 July. The screening is an opportunity for residents and visitors to watch the match for free in the heart of the city.

And everybody is welcome earlier on Sunday too as from 12 noon the University of Sunderland is providing free football coaching and football tennis for all ages.

The viewing area on Keel Square will be open ahead from 3pm before the 5pm kick-off, and with seating available in the square.

Landmarks lit overnight on Saturday and Sunday include Penshaw Monument, the Northern Spire, Fulwell Mill and Hylton Castle.

Deputy Leader of Sunderland City Council, Councillor Kelly Chequer raised the flag for the Lionesses at City Hall earlier this month.

She said: "This is a great opportunity for everyone to get together and show their support for the Lionesses. It's been a roller-coaster of results, especially with that nail-biting finish against Italy in the semi-final, and we've all got our fingers crossed for Sunday.

"Keel Square is a family-friendly space for residents to share, enjoy and support the Lionesses in a welcoming environment.

"As we also look ahead, we're only weeks away from Sunderland hosting the opening of the Women's Rugby World Cup which is a huge event for our city and region, plus the return of Premier League football. It's a very exciting time for sport in our city."

Alcohol cannot be brought into the square. However, residents are welcome to purchase drinks from the adjoining licensed premises' and consume them in the viewing area. Residents can also enjoy the match from these premises and their outside seating areas.

Prohibited items include glasses, drugs, flares, smoke canisters, and only small folding seats are allowed - no picnic blankets, large chairs, gazebos, or parasols.

Under-18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and proof of age may be requested. Anti-social or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in removal. Dogs are not permitted, except for registered assistance dogs.

Everyone attending is asked to be respectful and considerate, helping to ensure a safe and positive experience for all.
