Planned System Maintenance - Limited Service

Sunderland City Council will be carrying out planned system maintenance from 12 noon on Friday 5th June until 7am on Tuesday 9th June. During this period, we will only be able to respond to urgent enquiries. If your enquiry is not urgent, please contact us before or after these times when full services will be available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

Fair Tax Council

In January 2021 Sunderland City Council became the first Fair Tax Council in the North East, when we signed up to the Councils for Fair Tax Declaration. Aggressive tax avoidance negatively distorts our national and local economies and reduces contributions that support vital public services on which we all rely. We want to support and recognise responsible businesses that pay their fair share. As a Fair Tax Council we have committed to:

  • Leading by example on our own tax conduct, such as making sure that contract workers are paying their fair share of tax;
  • Encouraging responsible tax practices amongst the businesses we work with and celebrating Fair Tax Week;
  • Joining calls for UK public procurement rules to change so that councils like Sunderland can do more to tackle tax avoidance and award points to suppliers that demonstrate responsible tax conduct.
