Sunderland Royal Hospital CPMS
The Sunderland Royal Hospital Community Parking Management Scheme was introduced in December 2010, with the latest phase, Phase 4 of the scheme being introduced on Monday 11 September 2017. The scheme was designed following discussions with residents, traders and stakeholders to:
- Address parking problems
- Improve road safety for all highway users
- Improve access and parking for disabled people
- Give residents some priority in parking their cars as close as possible to their property
The restrictions which apply within scheme are from Monday to Friday between 10.00am and 11.00am and again between 2.00pm and 3.00pm. There is no need to display a parking permit when parking outside of these times.
Only vehicles displaying any of the following are entitled to park during these times:
• A valid parking permit
• A voucher
• A valid blue badge
Any vehicle observed parking without displaying any of these during the required times may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice.
Permit applications
A new permit application system has been introduced from 1st July 2025. If you have not applied for permits after this date, you will need to set up a new account to make your application(s). Please use the link below.
When applying for standard permits you will be required to provide supporting documentation:
• Proof of address - this year's council tax/water rates bill or a utility bill/bank statement dated within the last three months
• V5C/motor insurance certificate for the vehicle
Applications for visitor permits/scratch cards will require proof of address.

Cost of Permits
An administration fee is payable for the provision of parking permits. The fee covers the administration costs associated with permit issue and will apply for a full year or part thereof. No pro rata payments are available. All permits have an expiry date printed on them. Please see information below which details the permit period that applies for each Community Parking Management scheme.
Please note: if you purchase a permit after the commencement of the scheme year the permit will only be valid for the remaining months of that scheme year there are no pro rata payments available.
The permit scheme year for the Sunderland Royal Hospital CPMS is:
1st January - 31st December.
Renewal of Permits
Please note: We will issue a reminder by email when applications are open in the future for renewal. Please ensure you include an email address when making your application online for us to do this. Alternatively, you can apply for your new permit 1 month before the expiry date printed on the front of the current permit.
