Sunderland City Council provide a range of services to support the health and wellbeing of children and young people.
Growing Healthy Sunderland
Harrogate and District Foundation Trust, Growing Healthy Sunderland, deliver the 0-19 Public Health Service to all children and families living in the Sunderland area, through Health Visiting and School Nursing. They offer access to:
- Support pre and post pregnancy, for breastfeeding and infant feeding, and child development reviews
- The Family Nurse Partnership for pregnant young women aged 19 and under (and their partners)
- Support to apply for Healthy Start Vouchers and Vitamins ,available for eligible pregnant women and children across the city and those who are registered with the Healthy Start Programme can get free vitamins
- A School Nursing programme through education settings including health screening, health promotion and support with issues like sleep and continence
- Emotional Resilience Nurses provide group intervention and 1:1 emotional resilience and mental health wellbeing support for children and young people of school age experiencing bullying, anxiety, low self-esteem
- A range of sexual health services available for young people age 13 years and over

Active Sunderland
Active Sunderland - support children, young people (age 18 and under) and their families with small lifestyle changes that can make a big difference to overall health and wellbeing. You can contact the team contact the team directly if you would like for support, advice and information about healthy eating and physical activity. The Active Sunderland Healthy Lifestyles Programme is FREE, runs in all areas of the city. It runs for six weeks and it's packed with fun, interactive healthy lifestyle sessions with something for everyone.
- For the younger ones - games such as dodge ball, rounders, parachute and tag games
- For teens - gym induction, weekly workout and group exercise activities
- For everyone - healthy snack making and taste sessions, advice on food groups, portion sizes, hidden sugars and fats, breakfasts, eating out and much more.

Together for Children
Together for Children provide a range of services for children and their families including:
- Best Start in Life Family Hubs support families right the way through from conception and early years, up until the age of 19, or 25 for young people with special educational needs and disabilities, the hubs are a one stop shop by joining up local family services, offering practical help and support with everything from infant feeding to mental health, relationship building and parenting classes.
- Early Help - providing targeted support to children, young people and families at the earliest point of identified need
- Social Care - providing support to children in need of help and protection.
Sunderland Youth Drug and Alcohol Project
Youth Drug and Alcohol Project - YDAP Sunderland is available for young people aged 10-18 who require specialist advice and support relating to drugs or alcohol.
