Weighbridge operator

Operators of public weighbridges need to hold a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspect of Weights and Measures. This ensure that they can perform their duties competently and honestly, and can be obtained after performing a basic test. No one can operate public weighing equipment unless they hold a certificate.

Eligibility Criteria

You must have sufficient knowledge for the proper performance of your duties.

Definitions

Public Weighbridge Operators tests are conducted by virtue of the Weights and Measures Act 1985, and there is no charge for this service.

To book a test, we need to know the following information

  • Employer's name and contact number
  • Address at which the test is to be given
  • Details of equipment on which test is to be given including the make and type of indication (i.e. digital, steelyard or chart/dial)

Will "tacit consent" Apply?

No. It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from the local authority within a reasonable period, please contact the relevant local authority.

Failed Application Redress

You may appeal to the National Measurement Office if your application is refused.
