Reporting a concern about unsafe working practices or workplaces
The enforcement of health and safety legislation is split across several authorities.
In general, we are responsible for enforcement in the following types of businesses:
- offices (except government offices)
- shops and warehouses
- hotels
- restaurants
- pubs and clubs
- leisure premises
- nurseries and playgroups - in non-domestic and non-school premises
- museums (privately owned)
- places of worship
- sheltered accommodation and care homes
The exception to this is fire safety, which is enforced by Tyne and Wear Fire Service in most workplaces.
