The countdown to Christmas is underway in Sunderland, with lights being switched on in neighbourhoods all over the city.
The city centre's annual Light Switch On will take place on November 17, before neighbourhoods throughout Sunderland hold their own seasonal celebrations.
The Christmas period will kick off in Washington on Monday 21 November with a festive firework display and a Christmas light switch on event in Concord.
Starting at 4.30pm, there will be musical performances and rides from 4.30pm at Victoria Road.
The Southwick Annual Illuminations event, organised by Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project, will be taking place at Southwick Village Green on Friday 25 November from 3.30pm to 5pm. Look out for festive family fun and appearances from special guests.
Easington Lane's Christmas tree, opposite Easington Lane clock, will light up on Friday 25 November with music, refreshments, face painting and a visit from Santa himself all happening from 4.30pm at the Community Access Point's hall.
Shiney Row's Christmas lights will be switched on by Mayor of Sunderland, Cllr Alison Smith, just before 5pm on Thursday 1 December. An event organised by Shiney Advice and Resource Project (ShARP) will start at 4.25pm and will feature a dance performance, stilt walkers, Santa's grotto and activities at Trinity Hall until 6pm.
Councillor Linda Williams, Portfolio Holder for Vibrant City at Sunderland City Council, said: "This Christmas we have opportunities for everyone to get into the festive spirit, with some magical events taking place all across the city.
"As well as switching on Christmas lights, we will get to enjoy family fun, music, and entertainment from the city's talented musicians and artists. I hope lots of people will come along and enjoy these fantastic free events as we start looking forward to Christmas."
